For a Mac

An app with a window. The same download for Apple chips and Intel.

  1. Open the download and drag Samklang Server onto Applications. Open it from there.
  2. Switch the server on. When macOS asks, Allow it to find devices on your local network.
  3. Open Samklang on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Your Mac is in the list: pick it to pair.

For a Raspberry Pi Zero W

Small, cheap and always on. You put Samklang on the Pi's card with samklang-pi, a small program for the computer that writes the card.

  1. In Raspberry Pi Imager, put Raspberry Pi OS Lite (32-bit) on the card. When it asks about settings, fill in your Wi-Fi.
  2. Leave the card in your computer and run samklang-pi. It copies Samklang onto the card.
  3. Put the card in the Pi and plug the charger into PWR IN. After about 5 minutes the Pi is in Samklang on your iPhone, iPad or Mac: pick it to pair.

Mac: open the download and double-click samklang-pi. Windows: double-click the file; if Windows warns about it, choose More info, then Run anyway. Linux: in a terminal, chmod +x samklang-pi-linux-x64 and then ./samklang-pi-linux-x64.

For a satellite

A Raspberry Pi Pico W or Pico 2 W by a Bluetooth speaker brings that speaker into Samklang. Set up Samklang Server first.

With a Mac: no download

  1. In Samklang on the Mac, choose Settings → Satellites → Add a satellite. Hold the Pico's BOOTSEL button while you plug it in. Samklang puts the software on it.
  2. Plug the Pico into a USB charger near the speaker. In Samklang on your iPhone, choose Settings → Satellites → Add a satellite, and follow it.

With any other computer

Get the satellite fileComing with Samklang 1.0.
  1. Open the download. Hold the Pico's BOOTSEL button while you plug it into your computer, then let go. A drive appears.
  2. Drag satellite.uf2 onto it for a Pico W, or satellite-rp2350.uf2 for a Pico 2 W. The Pico restarts by itself.
  3. Plug the Pico into a USB charger near the speaker. In Samklang on your iPhone, choose Settings → Satellites → Add a satellite, and follow it.
